Dr. Megan Burgess is a highly regarded, board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, serving the San Antonio, TX area for more than 20 years. Spending her formative years in the shadow our nation’s capital, a desire to serve her country was instilled early. After completing her undergraduate degree at Towson University in MD, she joined the Air Force! She obtained her medical degree from the military’s medical school in Bethesda, MD, graduating from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2003.
After graduating, Dr. Burgess was accepted into a 5-year residency in general surgery at UT Health San Antonio. She was then granted a prestigious 2-year research fellowship where she was also able to obtain a Master of Clinical Investigation (MSCI). Additional specialization followed, as she completed training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UT Health San Antonio in 2015.
Dr. Burgess distinguished herself during her career in the U.S. Air Force. While serving as a general surgeon at David Grant Medical Center (Travis AFB), the Air Force’s largest military treatment facility, she was deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She provided life-saving treatment to critically injured airman being moved out of theater through the Aeromedical Evacuation system.
With her deployment behind her, Dr. Burgess returned to San Antonio for good! She completed specialty training and joined the Plastic Surgery department at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), the Department of Defense’s busiest level 1 trauma center. It was there she provided comprehensive plastic surgery services to military beneficiaries, from breast reconstruction to body contouring post-bariatric surgery, to aesthetic procedures.
Following military retirement, Dr. Burgess has continued to establish herself as one of San Antonio’s most sought-after experts in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. She has continued to provide insurance based reconstructive services through the Baptist Medical Network located in Stone Oak. Concurrently, she has co-founded The Plastic Surgery Group of San Antonio. It is here that she applies her refined technical skill and aesthetic sensibility to help patients realize their goals.
