Deep Plane Facelift

San Antonio, TX

Refine your natural beauty with personalized surgical artistry

Overview

Facelift and facial contouring procedures are surgical techniques designed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.  Dr. Hogan utilizes the Deep Plane Facelift technique, often in combination with complementary procedures such as Brow Contouring, Blepharoplasty, Lip LiftNeck Lift, and Fat Grafting.  By targeting the deeper facial layers, she is able to deliver a more natural, longer-lasting result by restoring volume and improving facial harmony without the "windswept” appearance of traditional facelifts. Each procedure is individualized based on the patient’s anatomy, degree of facial aging, and aesthetic goals, restoring a more youthful, refined appearance without compromising facial identity.

PanFacial Rejuvenation

The deep plane facelift, in combination with other complementary procedures, can have a profound emotional impact, often restoring a sense of confidence, vitality, and alignment between how a person feels and how they appear. As facial aging or excessive weight loss alter definition, many individuals begin to feel that their outward appearance no longer reflects their inner energy or identity. By restoring balance, structure, and a refreshed appearance, facial rejuvenation can help patients feel more like themselves, thus reigniting self-assurance in personal, social, and professional settings. For many, it’s not about looking different, but about feeling seen again.

Structural Refinement With a Deep Plane Facelift

The deep plane facelift demands an intricate understanding of facial anatomy, as it involves releasing and repositioning deep tissues near critical nerves and vascular structures. Advanced anatomic expertise and extensive surgical experience allow us to perform this complex procedure with precision and safety. Based in San Antonio, we combine technical mastery with an artistic eye to deliver natural, harmonious results that respect each patient’s unique facial structure.

What Is a Deep Plane Facelift?

A deep plane facelift is an advanced facial rejuvenation procedure that lifts and repositions the deeper structures of the face. Unlike traditional facelifts that rely on delaminating techniques with surface tightening or simple SMAS plication, the deep plane technique works below the superficial muscular layer, releasing the facial ligaments, and elevating the soft tissues of the face as a composite structure.  This deeper approach restores natural contours and soft tissue support, resulting in more authentic, long-lasting rejuvenation without a pulled or “done” appearance.

Whereas a traditional facelift may offer improvement in the jawline and lower face, it often does little to correct volume loss or sagging in the cheeks and nasolabial folds. The deep plane facelift lifts the mid and lower face as a continuous unit, addressing facial aging at its source. It reduces the need for over-reliance on fillers or fat grafting, since natural volume is repositioned rather than added.

Safety is paramount in any surgical procedure, especially one involving delicate facial anatomy. The deep plane technique requires a level of detail that few surgeons are truly qualified to provide. Our thoughtful planning and elite surgical care team ensure the highest standards of safety and care throughout every step of the surgical journey.

Before & After

Is This Right For Me?

You may be a good candidate for facelift and facial contouring if you’re noticing sagging skin, jowling, deep folds, or a loss of definition along the jawline and neck from aging or weight loss. These changes are common as we get older from loss of collagen and elasticity and can be effectively addressed with a personalized surgical plan.

The best candidates are in good health, non-smokers, and have realistic expectations about results and recovery. A personal consultation will determine the most appropriate approach based on your anatomy, goals, and desired level of correction.

What to Expect

Facelift and facial contouring procedures are performed in an AAAASF-accredited surgical suite under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Surgery for an isolated deep plane facelift typically takes two to four hours, with incisions placed discreetly along the hairline and around the ears to lift and reposition facial tissues.

Most patients return home the same day with detailed aftercare instructions.  You will be provided with Dr. Hogan’s personal cell phone number should questions arise after clinic hours or on weekends.  Your initial post-operative visit will be the day after surgery.

Swelling and bruising are expected but improve within the first few weeks. Light activity can usually resume in 7-10 days, and enhanced recovery options, such as red light therapy and lymphatic massage, are provided to support healing.

Results

Facelift and facial contouring procedures are designed to produce smooth, natural-looking rejuvenation with minimal visible scarring. Incisions are carefully hidden in natural creases and contours and typically fade significantly with proper healing and care.  Final results are typically visible between 3 to 6 months post-surgery, with continued improvement as scars mature and skin texture refines. The outcome is a refreshed, more youthful appearance that preserves your natural facial identity while turning back the clock.
